Congress workers detained as they protest AAP govt’s ‘failure’ in Punjab

Thousands of Congress workers from across Punjab staged a demonstration against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP government today, criticising their failure to fulfil promises, particularly the monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to women.
The Congress had planned to ‘gherao’ the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, but police detained workers and prevented them from reaching the venue, deploying a heavy contingent to maintain security.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring addressed the workers, stating that the government had completely failed, citing the state’s debt crossing Rs 4 lakh crore and impending rise to Rs 4.17 lakh crore. He alleged that AAP had squandered funds on elections in Delhi, Gujarat, and Goa, instead of investing in Punjab’s infrastructure.
Warring demanded the government pay the promised stipend with four years’ arrears, highlighting unfulfilled promises, including revival of the old pension scheme, pending DA, and generating Rs 20,000 crore from sand mining.
Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, and former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also criticised the AAP government’s failure, citing deteriorating law and order, and alleged a tacit understanding between AAP and BJP to prevent the Congress from returning to power.
