Cop killed in Mohali mishap

MOHALI: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police died in a road accident near Jagatpura here. ASI Jasveer Singh (48), a resident of Sector 20, Chandigarh, was driving a two-wheeler while his wife was riding pillion when a speeding scooter hit their vehicle late on Sunday night.

Mohali, August 19 

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police died in a road accident near Jagatpura here.

ASI Jasveer Singh (48), a resident of Sector 20, Chandigarh, was driving a two-wheeler while his wife was riding pillion when a speeding scooter hit their vehicle late on Sunday night. 

According to the police, the cop received a head injury and was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh. He succumbed to the injuries during treatment. 

The condition of his wife, who had sustained injuries, is said to be stable. 

ASI Jasveer Singh was posted with the Punjab Wireless Police, Mohali.

A case under Section 304-A (death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified Activa scoter driver at the Phase 11 police station.
