Amritsar: Harjit Singh, a Punjab Police constable posted at Chandigarh, reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself at Ajnala bus stand on Wednesday. The police found a suicide note at the spot. DSP Harpreet Singh said that they were yet to ascertain why the cop took the extreme step.

Two arrested under NDPS Act 

Chandigarh: The UT police arrested two persons and recovered banned capsules and heroin from their possession. One of the accused was arrested from near Deep Complex, Hallo Majra. According to the police, the Operation Cell arrested Harinder alias Machi, a resident of Hallo Majra, for possessing 1,500 banned capsules. The police said they had an information that accused was supplying capsules to drug addicts in the city. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sector 31 police station and an investigation has been initiated. In another incident, a 23-year-old youth identified as Vikash a resident of Sector 25 Colony, was arrested from Maloya, while possessing 10-gm heroin. A case against him has been registered at the Maloya police station. TNS

One held for fake no. plate

Chandigarh: A 29-year-old youth has been arrested for using fake registration number on his i20. According to the police, accused identified as Sumit Panwar, a resident of Sonepat, Haryana, was arrested from near gate no. 4 of Police Colony, Sector 26, while driving a car with fake registration number. The police said the car number was CH 20(T)5831, however, another number was applied on it. The police have registered a case under Section 473 (making or possessing counterfeit seal, etc) of the IPC at the Sector 26 police station. tns

One killed in road mishap

Kharar: A pedestrian lost his life after a motorcyclist rammed into him on Kharar-Kurali road on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as Vinay Kumar, a resident of Daun Majra village. As per information, both Vinay and motorcyclist was seriously injured and were taken to the Kharar Civil Hospital. While, Vinay was declared brought dead, the other person has been undergoing treatment. OC

Kharar police arrest PO 

Kharar: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Charanjit Singh, a resident of Morinda. Assistant Sub-Inspector Somnath said the accused was booked under Sections 382, 34 and 471 of the IPC on August 4, 2013. The ASI said later, Charanjit was declared a proclaimed offender. He said the accused would be produced before a court tomorrow. Oc 

Two nabbed  with drugs

Ambala: The district police have arrested two persons in separate cases and claimed to have recovered drugs from their possession. According to the police, Rakesh Kumar, alias, Kaka, of Mahesh Nagar, was held with 20-gm heroin. He was stopped for checking at a check-post near Hathi Khana Mandir in the Ambala Cantonment, the police said. In a separate case, Anju of Devi Nagar, Ambala City, was held with 230- gm ganja during a checking near Hafed godown on Ghel Road. Both the accused will be produced before local courts tomorrow. The officials informed that in another case, Karan of Baldev Nagar was arrested for supplying drugs to Shubham of Jasmeet Nagar, who was arrested yesterday for trying to throw drugs inside the Central jail through a boundary ball with the help of a tennis ball. Ambala: The police have arrested Sandeep, alias, Rajan, a resident of Karnal, in two separate cases of immigration frauds. According to the police, Harjit Singh of Barara, and Gaurav Kumar of Shahbad, Kurukshetra, had complained that the accused had taken hefty amount of money from them for sending them abroad. The duo said neither Sandeep sent them abroad nor did he return their money. The accused would be produced before a local court tomorrow. TNS

Jindal new gen secy of CREDAI 

Chandigarh: Arun Jindal, director, Maya Garden Group, has been appointed general secretary of the CREDAI Punjab. Jindal talked about value addition to make the CREDAI Punjab more synced. He said, “It is imperative that our state body should be considered while framing policies and general guidelines at a national level. Our representation as a Punjab state body should be given a priority.” TNS

SBI conducts 2-day session 

Panchkula: State Bank of India (SBI) conducted a two-day session to generate ideas and review bank’s performance. Surender Rana, General Manager, Network-2 Chandigarh, said the primary objective of the meeting was to identify and finalise ways and means to increase credit to various sectors of the economy, enhace use of technology to bring about innovation and enable big data analytics, and make banking citizen centric as well as more responsive to the needs and aspirations of senior citizens, farmers, small industries, enterprises and youths. Three booked for selling illegal liquor

Kharar: The police have booked three persons under the Excise Act. Assistant Sub-Inspector Karamveer Singh said they got a tip-off that Gurvir Singh, a resident of Madanheri, was selling liquor in the area. He said Shiv Kumar, a resident of Padol, and Varinder Singh, a resident of Badali, used to bring liquor for him.He said the cops had set up a nakka near Nai-Shehar village and stopped a car for inspection. During search, nine boxes of liqour which were meant for sale in Chandigarh were recovered. The ASI said Shiv and Varinder were arrested, while Gurvir was yet to be arrested. OC

Bootlegger arrested

Kharar: The police have recovered 10 cases of liquor from Ravinder Singh, a resident of Cholta Khurd .ASI Jarnail Singh said the accused also has a house at Ghogha village. He said the accused had kept liquor purchased from Chandigarh at Ghogha and use to sell it to his customers on his Activa. OC
