In a major relief for mobile users, Fatehgarh Sahib police handed over 300 lost and stolen phones worth Rs 70 lakh to their rightful owners on Tuesday. Owners travelled from states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana to collect their devices, which had gone missing over the past three months.

Addressing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police Subham Aggarwal revealed that officers traced 500 lost and stolen phones during that period. They returned 300 handsets—worth nearly Rs 70 lakh—today, while 200 had been returned last month. The haul included 17 iPhones and 283 Android devices.

The SSP praised the district’s technical wing, led by Rakesh Yadav, SP (Detective), for its relentless efforts. Some phones had been lost just five days earlier; the oldest dated back nearly a year. “Our teams continuously worked on complaints, generating strong public support for police efforts. The recovery drive continues,” he added.

Aggarwal urged residents to report lost phones immediately via police portals or nearest Saanjh Kendras for swift tracing.

Rakesh Yadav warned buyers of stolen devices that those caught faced charges under relevant laws. He appealed to the public to avoid suspiciously cheap handsets and to help curb the illegal trade.
