Cyber fraud case: Court grants bail to accused

A local court has granted bail to Mahinder Kumar, a resident of Rajasthan, arrested in a cyber-fraud case of over Rs 15 lakh. The police had registered the case in 2025 at the cyber crime police station, Chandigarh, on the complaint of Sunita.

She said that she had received a call from an unknown number, claiming that illegal items, including narcotics, were found in a parcel sent in her name. The fraudsters pressured her by threatening legal action. Out of fear, she transferred Rs 15 lakh from her bank account to various accounts.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Rs 10 lakh was deposited into the account of accused Mahinder. Defence lawyer Swaraj Arora argued that his client had been falsely implicated in the case. —TNS
