Cyber fraudster in Chandigarh police net

Chandigarh, July 5

The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the UT police has arrested a fraudster.

In a complaint to the police, Malkit Singh had reported that unknown person called him up posing as an employee of HDFC Life Insurance. The suspect offered to update the complainant’s insurance policy.

The complainant deposited Rs 1,59,000 in different bank accounts given by the suspect, but his life insurance was not updated. The suspect also stopped responding to the complainant’s calls following which he approached the police. During the investigation, the suspect, identified as Faisal Hussain (25), a resident of Delhi, was arrested. He was produced in a court today, which sent him to two-day police remand. — TNS

Modus operandi

The suspect, Faisal Hussain of Delhi, used to work in a insurance company and knew its working. He, along with his friend, used to open bank accounts of labourers after paying them Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000. The fraudsters used to get the cheated money transferred in these accounts and withdraw the same from different ATMs.
