DC seeks report on crackdown against illegal mining in Panchkula district
Stresses on round-the-clock field inspections under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrates
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Satpal Sharma has directed officials to submit an action taken report within five days on measures adopted to curb illegal mining in the district. The directive was issued during a meeting of the District Level Task Force Committee (Mining) held at the Mini Secretariat.
To intensify enforcement, four mobile checking teams, two each for Panchkula and Kalka sub-divisions, have been constituted. These teams comprise officials from the Irrigation and water resources, police, forest and mining departments, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Panchkula, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board. They have been tasked with conducting routine surprise inspections in the vulnerable areas.
The DC stressed on the need for round-the-clock field inspections under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrates and called for strict monitoring at joint check posts set up by the police, mining department and the RTA. He warned that negligence would invite accountability.
Officials informed that between April 2025 and February 2026, 371 vehicles were seized, Rs 1.95 crore in fines recovered and 12 FIRs registered. In February alone, 28 vehicles were impounded and four FIRs lodged.
