Decomposed body of woman found in drain

The body of an unidentified woman was found in a roadside drain alongside the Airport Road this afternoon.

Passersby noticed it and informed the police. A forensic team collected evidence from the spot. Later, the body of woman, aged around 25, was shifted to the Derra Bassi subdivisional hospital where it will be kept for the next 72 hours for identification purpose.

The police said further action would be taken after they received the post-mortem report. A case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station.

Zirakpur SHO Satinder Singh said, “The body is in a decomposed state. The police are investigating the matter and awaiting the post-mortem report. Nearby police stations have been informed and CCTV footage of several places is being scanned.”
