Dengue case count crosses 200 mark in Panchkula district

The district is witnessing a steep rise in the number of dengue cases on a daily basis. The district has recorded a total of 212 cases. Of these, 17 cases were recorded today.

Officials of the Health Department said the highest 74 cases had been reported from urban pockets of Panchkula city followed by 55 from the Surajpur area, 33 Pinjore, 32 Old Panchkula, five Kalka, four Raipur Rani, three Kot, two each from Morni and Nanakpur and one each from Hangola and Barwala.

The number of cases in the district was 99 on August 27. As such, the cases have doubled within a week.

Health officials said Deputy Director Ravinder Ahlawat, state entomologist Seema Singh, senior health inspector Naresh Kumar and Chaman Lal from the office of the Director, Health, conducted a surprise inspection in Sectors 6, 15 and 16 and the Nada Sahib area. They also checked vector density and larva density of the area. The team found dengue larvae in coolers, refrigerator trays, pot trays and water drums kept in houses.

Ahlawat directed health officials to run a special campaign in dengue-affected and dengue-prone areas to inform residents about preventive measures, including covering all drums and tanks with cloth. He also issued directions for reserving sufficient number of beds in government hospitals for dengue patients. The teams destroyed the dengue larvae found during the inspection.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Mukta Kumar held a meeting with all senior medical officers of the district and directed them to oversee the activities being carried out for dengue prevention. District Malaria Officer, Panchkula Dr Suresh Bhonsle issued directions to run special campaigns for dengue prevention.
