Chandigarh, November 8

As many as five more fresh cases of dengue were reported today, taking the total number of dreaded fever cases to 990 in the city.

Last year, a total of 1,256 dengue cases were reported in Chandigarh.

The UT Heath Secretary had recently conducted a review meeting to take stock of the situation. All departments were instructed to take adequate measures for control of dengue and its prevention.

The MC was also instructed to remove garbage dumps. It was also directed to cut wild grass and to improve sanitary condition in and around colonies from where a majority of the dengue cases were reported.

However, local residents complain of inadequate fogging and insanitary conditions, including stagnant water in several parts of the city, especially in slums.
