Despite lapses pointed out by inspection committees, the affiliation panel of Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday allowed the acceptance of returns of students of DAV Institute of Management, Sector 10, and Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector 11.

However, students of BBA-I and BCA-I of the PGGC, Sector 46, were left in lurch as no decision on acceptance of returns was taken in today’s meeting. The affiliation panel also authorised PU Registrar and Dean College Development Council (DCDC) to take a call on sending an inspection team to the PGGC-11.

However, there is an issue whether quorum in the meeting was complete today or not. However, Senator, Dr RK Mahajan, differed. “There is no issue of quorum for the affiliation committee as there is no provision for the same in the PU Calendar,” he said.

DAV Institute of Management

Out of the five Senators present in today’s meeting, Satish Sharma, who is also chairperson of the affiliation committee, and Dr RK Mahajan, are from DAV institutes while Inderpal Singh Sidhu and Amit Joshi are from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26. Senator Dr Ameer Sultana from the PU was also present in the meeting. Dr Joshi said he came late and only one case was discussed before him, which was of DAV Institute of Management.

The DCDC, Prof Sanjay Kaushik, was not present in the meeting. The inspection committee comprising PU teachers had visited DAV Institute of Management on October 30 and had pointed out that the institute did not have a regular director, required faculty, non-teaching staff and separate land. They were also not provided record of internal assessment of previous semesters.

The executive committee of the DAV College Teachers’ Union also met the inspection committee and expressed strong resentment against the creation of the institute of management within the premises of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Despite lapses, the institute got three-month time to comply with the conditions imposed.

PGGC-11

Earlier, on October 25, the PGGC, Sector 11, was denied affiliation for the BCA-I, II and III; BSc (Biotechnology) I, II and III; BSc (Microbiology) I, II and III; MCom-I and II; MSc (Information Technology) I and II; and MA (English) I and II.

“On Wednesday, members discussed the reply submitted by the Higher Education Department and allowed affiliation,” said Satish Kumar, chairperson of affiliation committee.

With the reply, the Education Department submitted bills of books purchased and informed about the long procedure of recruitment by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

PGGC-46

The PGGC-46 had forgotten to apply for affiliation for BBA (First unit) first and third semesters and BCA (Second unit) first and third semesters. No inspection has been conducted at the college.
