The move is a massive egg on the face of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and other parties which had aligned to dethrone the incumbent president through the no-confidence motion. Significantly, the first no-confidence motion was held illegal by the HC as Executive Officer had called for a special meeting even though it is the legal right of MC president to call for a meeting.

Udayvir Singh Dhillon said, “The AAP government, which was trying for the past one-and-a-half years to dethrone an elected president, itself conceded its defeat in the court and accepted that the October 3 no-confidence motion has failed. AAP, SAD, independents and BJP combined but failed. I request all councillors who left Congress to come and join for the betterment of people of Zirakpur.”

Meanwhile, the letter issued to hold the elections for the post of vice-president of Zirakpur Municipal Council has been cancelled.
