The Municipal Corporation (MC) has begun door-to-door collection of household solid waste project in six wards of the city. Mayor Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said, “The project will be started in other wards too.”
MC officials said the civic body’s project would help segregate and collect solid household waste from 1.41 lakh houses in the city.
Proposed in June last year, the project was passed by the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the MC in October, 2018. The MC had then bought vehicles for transportation of the waste in February this year before the implementation of the model code of conduct for elections.
Mayor Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said, “We have started door-to-door waste collection programme in over six wards of the city.”
Officials said residents would segregate the household waste into dry, wet and domestic hazardous waste, which would be transported to dumping yards. Later, the waste would be transported to the solid waste management plant in Mohali, they added.
