Door-to-door voter verification in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district from June 25

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal announced today that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district would be conducted in a completely transparent, systematic and time-bound manner, following the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Following the ECI’s notification for the statewide revision across Punjab, the district administration has initiated comprehensive preparations.

Key timeline and deployment

Under the SIR drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits from June 25 to July 24 to distribute and collect voter forms. To ensure the exercise runs smoothly, the administration has deployed 838 BLOs, 83 Supervisors, 3 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and six Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). Mandatory training for field staff will take place from June 15 to June 24.

“The primary objective of the SIR is to ensure the inclusion of every eligible citizen in the electoral roll, while simultaneously removing ineligible entries to maintain absolute accuracy and integrity,” Mittal stated.

Critical dates and deadlines

January 1, 2003, has been fixed as the qualifying date for the SIR. Mittal further stated that the rationalisation of polling stations would be completed by July 24, while the draft electoral rolls would be published on July 31.

Claims and objections regarding the draft voter lists may be submitted from July 31 to August and their disposal would be carried out between July 31 and September 28. The final publication of the electoral rolls had been scheduled for October 1.

Important rules and guidelines

Mittal issued a strict reminder that maintaining dual voter registration was a constitutional offense punishable by up to one year of imprisonment. Addressing documentation, she clarified that while an Aadhaar Card was accepted as a valid means of identification, it cannot be used as proof of citizenship during the revision exercise.

To streamline data verification, existing electoral rolls based on the January 1, 2003, qualifying date had already been integrated into the current voter database.

Appeal to residents and political parties

Highlighting progress, Mittal noted that 65.74% of the preliminary mapping had already been completed in the district. “BLOs are instructed to visit households up to three times if necessary to collect forms,” she said.

The District Election Officer urged residents to cooperate fully with visiting field staff. Additionally, she called upon all political parties in the district to promptly appoint their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure a transparent process.
