The UT Excise and Taxation Department, has attached the bank accounts of a petrol pump in Sector 22A, one of the oldest in the city, and cancelled its VAT number after the owner failed to pay tax to the tune of over Rs 8 crore.
Sources said besides, the department also decided to attach the firm owner’s properties to recover the dues.
RK Chaudhary, Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, said Indian Oil Company Ltd had been asked to stop supply to the petrol pump in view of the cancellation of its VAT number. He added that no one could continue any trade after its sales tax or VAT number was cancelled by the department.
Since the owner failed to depost tax for years, the department resorted to invoking the provisions of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887, to recover the dues after attaching the properties.
