Chandigarh: Four unknown persons stole a box containing Rs 50,000 to 60,000 in cash from Omparkash Chopra of Mohali at Guru Ravidas Gurdwara, Sector 30-A, on Friday. An FIR under Sections 380 and 454, Indian Penal Code, has been registered against unknown persons in this connection. TNS
Man loses Rs 2,100 to snatchers
Chandigarh: A resident of Mohali reported that three unknown persons and a woman stopped his Activa scooter and snatched Rs 2,100 from him on Friday. After committing the crime, the accused ran away from near Khuda Lahora bridge at the backside of Naya Gaon road. An FIR under Sections 379 and 356 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in this regard. TNS
One booked for forgery
Chandigarh: The Naib Tehsildar, Estate Office, UT, Inderpal Singh, has filed a complaint against Rampal of Nehru Colony, Kajheri, for submitting a forged photocopy of epic number in the court. The accused had applied for allotment of a flat under the Chandigarh Small Flats Scheme 2006 and submitted a copy of the 2005 electoral roll mentioning his name. As the accused was not registered as a voter in the electoral roll of 2005, he submitted its forged photocopy with the office of the UT Estate Office Naib Tehsildar. An FIR under Section 420 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accsed. Further investigation is in progress. TNS
Two minor boys go missing
Ambala: Two minor children from Ambala have reportedly gone missing. Both children—Arman (14) and Jitender (14)—are friends and students of Class VIII at the Army Public School in Ambala Cantonment. In his complaint to the police, Omkar Singh, Arman’s father, has stated that both children did not return home from the school on Friday. They were in school dress and their parents apprehended that someone might have kidnapped them. They were last seen at the local railway station around 2 pm. A case has been registered under Section 346 of of the Indian Penal Code in this connection and police teams have been constituted to trace the children. TNS
Railways exam: Imposters held
Ambala: Two imposters, who had arrived to appear for an online examination of the Railways at the ION digital zone examination centre in Shahpur, were caught on Friday. The accused were produced in a court that sent them to judicial custody. The accused have been identified as Sharmad Vani, a resident of Srinagar, and Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Jharkhand. As per information, Gulshan Kumar, venue observer, in his complaint to the police stated that during the verification of documents, it was observed that they had reached there to appear for others. While Sarmad Vani had appeared in place of Sonu, a resident of Anupgarh; Pradeep Kumar had appeared for Jasmair Singh, a resident of Anupgarh. A case has been registered under Sections 419, 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. TNS
55 examined at dental camp
Panchkula: A special camp was organised by a Panchkula-based dentist on World Heart Day in Chandigarh and Panchkula. As many as 55 patients were examined by a team of dentists regarding their oral health and heart condition. During the camp, people were informed as to how improper care of oral health could lead to heart diseases. Dr Aman Bhatia (gum specialist) of Dentafix informed that there were papers available in foreign as well as Indian journals on how gum diseases affected the overall health, especially heart. Dr Bhatia said bacteria present in oral cavity could enter blood stream (bacteremia) and aid in plaque formation in heart vessels, which increased chances of life-threatening heart conditions. TNS
Nitu wrestles to gold
Chandigarh: Chandigarh’s Nitu won a gold medal in the 57kg category on the second day of the inaugural U-23 National Wrestling Championship held in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. Poonam (55kg) and Anju (59kg) won a bronze medal each. On the opening day, Ravi Sharma of Chandigarh had clinched a gold medal in the 120kg Greco-Roman competition. Pertinently, the gold medal winners in the championship will get a ticket for the U-23 World Wrestling Championship to be held in Romania in November. TNS

Marathon against drug abuse
Chandigarh: A half marathon against drug abuse will be held here on October 7. The 21km half marathon run will be flagged off from Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, at 5:30 am, while the 10km run will be flagged off at 5:45 am, the organisers said here on Saturday.
