The local police here today booked six persons for allegedly duping a retired police officer of Rs 74 lakh on the pretext of selling him a property in Zirakpur.

An FIR was registered after the court of Judicial Magistrate Balwinder Kaur Dhaliwal passed an order on a petition filed by complainant Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Patiala.

The complainant had stated that he had met main accused Pawan Kumar and his accomplices in 2008 and struck a deal to buy a piece of land at Singhpura village near Zirakpur.

The complainant also stated that he gave Rs 74 lakh in token money to the accused, which was not returned to him.

Sukhdev had lodged a complaint with the police in January but the police did not take action on it. Later, he approached to court, which directed the Dera Bassi police to registered FIR in this connection.

On the other hand, one of the accused, Sanjeev Khanna, approached the High Court, which was pleased to issue a notice of motion and has also stayed the impunged order, dated March 14.

Amit Nanda, one of the accused, said he was falsely implicated in the case, terming it politically motivated to tarnish his image.
