He signed the endowment papers in the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig in a brief ceremony at her office. The initiative for academic activities has been created through a one-kanal property in Sector 123, Mohali, which he donated to the university. The endowment will support hosting an international law moot court competition, an annual lecture and an award for achievement every year.

The plot will be managed by the university and the proceeds from its sale will form the corpus of the Prof DN Jauhar Endowment.

Prof Jauhar completed his higher education at the university, from matriculation to PhD, before he joined the Department of Laws in 1970. Prof Jauhar also served as Vice Chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar University, Agra (formerly Agra University).

In 2023, Prof Jauhar, his wife Prof Adarsh Jauhar, a former teacher at Post-Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, and his agriculturalist brother Jatinder Jauhar had pledged to donate their bodies to the PGIMER for medical education and teaching and research.
