Excise raid at Kharar eatery, liquor smuggled from Chandigarh seized

The Punjab Excise Department conducted a raid at a restaurant in Kharar and recovered a large quantity of liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh only.

Excise Inspector Ashok Kumar said following a secret information, a team raided Food Way 43, a restaurant on the Landran road. During the raid, the team recovered a large quantity of liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh. The seized stock included 41 cases of English whisky and 47 of beer of different brands.

The restaurant owner, Davinder Kumar Arora, was apprehended on the spot. During questioning, it was revealed that the restaurant had been illegally selling and serving liquor to customers for the past about a month. When officials demanded the pass or permit for possessing the liquor, the accused failed to produce any valid document.

An FIR was registered against him under Sections 61 and 68 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, at the Kharar City police station.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Ashok Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Excise, Ropar Range.
