Government of Punjab has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that a four-member committee of senior doctors has been formed to investigate the complaint received from the office of the Mohali Deputy Commissioner regarding the medical negligence during a patient’s knee replacement at the Grecian Hospital.

The order regarding the formation of the committee by Mohali Civil Surgeon was placed before the court. The panel will be headed by Dr Anupam Mahajan, (HOD Orthopedics), AIIMS, Mohali. Its other members include Dr Amit Pal, Dr Harpreet and Dr Anamika Soni. The complete investigation process by the board will be carried out at the district hospital/AIIMS Mohali and the committee will submit its investigation report with comments within a week.

The order was placed during the hearing of the petition filed by Dr Abhishek Dhiman, resident of Delhi, through advocate Madhup Munjal. He said he himself was a doctor. His 63-year-old father had problems with his knee and the hospital doctors advised knee replacement. Before conducting the surgery, various medical tests were conducted and the surgery was performed on March 5.

His father suffered a cardiac arrest around 5 am in the recovery room and was shifted to the ICU. On March 10, he suffered a second cardiac arrest and passed away. He alleged that his father died due to negligence on the part of respondents.

Justice Suvir Sehgal has adjourned the hearing of the case for December 17, saying,
