Chandigarh, November 15

Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore on Thursday said Punjab was the karmabhumi of the Gurus and the roots of knowledge ran deep in that land, while inaugurating a seminar on ‘The tradition of Vedic studies in Punjab and social value’ at Panjab University.

He said since the time immemorial, the state had contributed to learning and teaching of Vedas. Innumerable scriptures and texts had been written in this land. On the one hand, the state enriched the nation with food, while on the other, it had been a leader in showering knowledge, he added. Panjab University V-C Prof Raj Kumar said in the last 43 years, this chair had given several scholars to the Vedic world and had produced more than 70 PhDs. He said the university was making efforts to digitise ancient manuscripts.

Prof Kamlesh Kumar Choksi from Gujarat University was the key speaker. He spoke about practical aspects of Vedas and Vedic civilisation, from preservation of texts to their teaching and interpretation and ultimately leading to grassroot level application of India’s ancient wisdom.

Dr Virupaksh Jaddipal, Secretary, Sandipani Rashtriya Vedavidya Pratisthan, emphasised the study of Vedas as the source of all knowledge. — TNS
