The banned Babbar Khalsa outfit claimed responsibility, alleging retaliation for the killing of Ranjit Singh in Gurdaspur. A viral video showing a person pulling a grenade lever appears authentic, but officials say further investigation is needed.

Security’s been tightened, and police have registered a case against unknown person(s).

The 19-year-old Ranjit Singh was among the three youths accused in the sensational double murder of an ASI and a Home Guard jawan near the Pakistan border on February 22. His encounter took place on February 25 and the family refused to do last rites until an FIR was filed. But due to deteriorating condition of the deceased, family performed last rights on March 9.
