The Advanced Eye Centre (AEC), PGI, Chandigarh, has received 24 patients, who had undergone cataract surgeries at various hospitals in Kurukshetra, post endophthalmitis, a rare but serious post-operative complication of cataract surgery, in the past few weeks.
So far, 19 patients have been operated upon at the AEC, PGI. “All patients are doing well on topical and systemic antibiotics. Their vision is gradually improving. None of the patients has complete vision loss. Eleven have been discharged and advised a follow-up. As of now, 13 patients are still admitted at the AEC and are monitored on a daily basis. Of these, five had undergone vitrectomy on Tuesday,” said a PGI spokesperson.
Chandigarh Tribune spoke with families of some of the patients at the PGI. They said they had come from different hospitals of Kurukshetra after they felt pain in eyes or infection post-operations.
“My father had weak eyesight and was operated upon at City Hospital, Kurukshetra, on March 6. After the operation, he got infection in eyes and was referred to the PGI on Friday,” said Abhishek.
Dinesh Kumar said, “My mother underwent cataract surgery at Agarwal Nursing Home in Kurukshetra on March 9 after which she complained of severe pain in eyes. She was later referred to the PGI. It seems supplier of material used in operations in all hospitals there was same.” Monu, who got lens surgery of his mother
