Fazilka youth held with heroin meant for Chandigarh Tricity supply
The suspect has been identified as Samerjit Singh, a resident of Jalalabad, Fazilka district. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Sector 7 police station.
According to DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh, the cell received a tip-off on August 23 that the youth would allegedly supply a large quantity of heroin to a customer near Topiary Park, Sector 6. A police team reached the spot and spotted a young man approaching the park gate on a motorcycle registered in Punjab. When the team signalled him to stop, he allegedly attempted to flee but was nabbed.
The suspect was produced in court on Monday, which remained him in police custody for four days.
Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain said he would be questioned in detail about the supply chain, main suppliers, customers and the source of the heroin consignment. Investigation also revealed that the suspect was named in an attempt-to-murder case, he said.
