Inderjeet Singh (27), a resident of Ferozepur City, was shot dead on the road leading from the Civil Hospital, Kharar, to Darpan City around 2 pm today. It is a busy road, but the assailants managed to escape in a car, which was reportedly without a number plate.

Inderjeet Singh and his friend Ajay had come from Ferozepur City to Kharar two days ago to meet another friend Rohit, who was staying at Darpan City. Rohit works at an office in Chandigarh. All three friends had gone to Chandigarh for sightseeing yesterday. Today, they were coming towards the Civil Hospital road on their motorcycle.

When they reached near the T-point of the road leading to Darpan City, they were stopped by two persons around 2 pm. The duo was carrying pistols and opened fire on Inderjeet. He fell down and the assailants escaped from this spot. Inderjeet was taken to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, where he was declared brought dead.

The Kharar City SHO, Inspector Bhagwant Singh, said after getting information about the murder, he, along with a police team, reached the spot within five minutes. He said people who had gathered at the spot told the police that the attackers escaped in a white car, which was without a number plate and was earlier parked on the roadside. He said Inderjeet was sitting in between his two friends on the motorcycle but the assailants fired shots at him alone. The victim was fired on the head.

Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal and Kharar DSP Inderjit Singh Lang also visited the spot. Talking to mediapersons, Chahal said prima facie, the murder appeared to be the result of some old rivalry. He said the deceased was unmarried and unemployed. He said the police were scrutinising CCTV footage.

A large number of people and mediapersons gathered at the spot after the incident. The police recovered over a dozen empty cartridges from the spot. Both friends of the deceased were taken by the police for investigation.
