Major fire breaks out at electric shop in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area
The fire may have been caused by a short circuit
A major fire broke out in an electrical equipment and crockery store in Industrial Area Phase II, Chandigarh, on Monday.
Fire department officials said they received a call around 9.30 am, following which fire tenders from the Industrial Area fire stations rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. However, firefighters faced difficulties controlling the fire due to the large quantity of plastic and electrical items stored in the shop.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.
Traders in the area said the blaze initially started in the crockery shop before spreading quickly to the electrical store.
This is the second such incident in the city this week. Earlier, on March 18, a shop in the mobile market of Sector 22 caught fire, damaging two floors of the building. It took the fire department over four hours to bring that blaze under control.
