Zirakpur: Fire breaks out at Peer Muchhalla building

Short-circuit believed to have led to the blaze at Mid Town Business Park

A fire broke out at an eight-storey building, Mid Town Business Park, in Peer Muchhalla near Dhakoli around 7.30 am today. The exact cause of the fire couldn’t be ascertained, but short-circuit was believed to have led to the blaze.

Local residents said the fire broke out on the fourth floor and quickly spread to the eighth floor, causing chaos in the nearby buildings. Police and fire teams immediately reached the spot. Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot from Panchkula, Zirakpur and Dera Bassi. The blaze was brought under control after about two hours.

The people present in the hotel and offices in the building were safely evacuated by the police and fire brigade. No one was injured. However, several rooms were gutted in the fire. The exact loss was being assessed when the reports last came in.
