Five arrested for kidnapping, extortion

Chandigarh, March 19 

Seven youths allegedly kidnapped a Sector 52 resident from his house and later demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 from his mother. The youths also robbed jewellery and cash from the victim’s house. Five of them have been arrested, while two are at large.

According to the police, the victim, Pardesi, alias Chunnu, alleged that Gogi, Gunga, Titu, Vijay, Anil, Ajju and Veeru entered his house on March 18 and robbed a mangal sutra, a pair of silver anklets and Rs 50,000.

They also kidnapped the victim and took him to Teen Colony, Sector 52, in an auto. They then made an extortion call to the victim’s mother and demanded Rs 50,000. 

The victim’s kin informed the police. The suspects came to know about it following which they released the victim and escaped from the spot.  A case under Sections 450 (house trespass in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment for life), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 346 (wrongful confinement in secret) of the IPC has been registered against the suspects at the Sector 36 police station.

The police said while five of them had been arrested, the remaining two — Vijay and Titu — were yet to be arrested.
