Focus and time management helped Patiala’s Jayesh Singla in securing the all-India fourth rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), said his elated mother, Dr Monika.

Talking to The Tribune over phone, Dr Monika said, “Jayesh used to set daily targets and work on them instead of thinking about the entire syllabus.”

She said Jayesh studied for around eight hours a day, which included self-study. “Around 4-5 hours of coaching and 3-4 hours of self-study was his daily routine, she said.

Wants to be computer programmer

Dr Monika further said Jayesh had keen interest in computer science and aspired to be a computer programmer. His father, Dr Ajay Singla, a pediatrician, said Jayesh was fond of table tennis and movies. “Whenever he comes home, he always plays table tennis and watches movies. Even when he is in Chandigarh, he takes out time to play tennis. He also likes watching IPL,” he said.

Jayesh Singla, 18, a Class XII student of Apollo Public School, Patiala, did his matriculation from Yadavindra Public School (YPS) and had scored 97.4 per cent in Class X.

He had earlier scored 100 percentile in JEE (Main) (Part-I) in January and was among top 15 out of 8.74 lakh students who appeared for the exam.
