Former cop gets life term in son-in-law’s disappearance case
A Mohali court sentenced former Julka police inspector Jagvir Singh to life imprisonment in relation to the disappearance case of his son-in-law, Gurdeep Singh, 14 years ago.
Jagvir was convicted under Sections 364, 464, 465, and 468 of the IPC on November 28. The 62-year-old rose from the post of inspector to DSP but was demoted later.
Gurdeep mysteriously disappeared on July 4, 2010, when he went to meet Jagvir near Singhpura to sort out marital discord with his father-in-law. His car was found in the Bhakhra canal a year later, but he remains missing to date.
“A missing person’s report was also filed in this regard,” said counsels AS Sukhija, Shehbaz Singh, and Diya Sharma.
According to the FIR, he was last seen with his father-in-law, after which he could not be contacted on phone, stated Bhupinder Kaur, the complainant, in the case.
Gurdeep and Jaspreet Kaur got married on November 30, 2008. Later, there was marital discord between the couple. A case was registered against Gurdeep at the Phase-8 police station. A compromise was stuck, after which Gurdeep started living with his in-laws.
