Fortnight on, auto driver held for murder at Daria hotel

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a murder that took place following a dispute between two auto-rickshaw drivers at hotel in Daria village last month.

According to the police, the incident occurred on January 28 at GP Royal Hotel. The deceased, Arun Kumar (31), and the accused, Vishal Mishra, reportedly had an altercation at the railway station earlier. The same evening, both men reached the hotel separately with passengers and went to the top floor where a quarrel broke out between them.

It is alleged that during the fight, Vishal picked up a knife from the hotel kitchen and attacked Arun Kumar multiple times, causing serious injuries. The victim died on the way to the hospital.

A case was registered at the Industrial Area police station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Prem Parkash Tiwari, a resident of Daria village.

During investigation, the police arrested Vishal, a resident of Baltana, Zirakpur. He was produced before a court, which sent him to two-day police remand.

The police said the accused was already facing a case registered at the Sector 31 police station in 2024.
