Mohali, June 19

An elderly couple was allegedly robbed of cash and jewellery worth several lakhs when four robbers, armed with sticks, barged into a house in the Trivedi Camp area at Mubarikpur in Dera Bassi on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. SI Balwinder Singh, along with a police team, visited the spot.

Mahinder Singh (75), in his complaint to the police, stated that he was sleeping in the house along with his wife and son at night. After hearing some sound around 1 am, he got up and saw four unknown persons present in the house, who had sharp weapons and sticks in their hands. Seeing him move towards them, the robbers attacked him, he said.

Mahinder said he became unconscious and fell on the ground. The robbers fled from the house with Rs 90,000, gold ornaments and four mobile phones. He said the robbers had picked up the sticks from a wooden saw installed in the house. Balwinder Singh, SI and Mubarakpur police post in-charge, said the robbers also took away the DVR of a CCTV camera installed in the house. He said the robbers were present in the house for about an hour. Gurbakshish Singh, DSP, Dera Bassi, said they had launched a manhunt to nab the robbers.
