Kharar, September 22
An amount of Rs 15 lakh was allegedly looted from the cashier of a liquor vend by four persons here this morning. The robbers, who came on two bikes, beat him up with sticks and took away his bag containing the cash.
Cashier Rajesh Kumar left his office at 9.15 am on an Activa scooter to deposit the amount at an SBI branch in Kharar.
When he reached a narrow lane near a gurdwara, he was stopped by two persons, who were on a Bullet motorcycle. Two other persons were following him on another Bullet motorcycle. They all had their faces covered. They tried to snatch his bag. When he resisted, he was beaten up with sticks and the bag containing the cash was snatched. The police said the bag contained Rs15.30 lakh. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons and the matter is being investigated.
The police said two of the suspects had been caught on CCTV cameras. The registration number of one of the motorcycles was also partially visible. Sources said 20 staff members of the office had been questioned. Rajesh, who sustained an injury on his hand, was working with a contractor, Baljinder. The latter was running his office from a “kothi”. Other staff members were also there. Rajesh was on his way to deposit the amount, which was the payment received over three days. — TNS
