Panic gripped students and staff of several private and government schools after they received fresh bomb threat emails, triggering evacuations, disruption of examinations and a massive security response across campuses.

Among the private schools, which received the threat emails, were Shivalik Public School, Carmel Convent School, Banyan Tree School, Chitkara International School, Kundan Public School, AKSIPS-45, Vivek High School, St John’s School, Gurukul (Manimajra), Delhi Public School, 3BRD Air Force School, Ankur Public School (Sector 14), Ashiana Public School and DC Montessori School. The government institutions, including GMSSS-16, GMSSS-10, GMSSS-8, GMHS Dadumajra, GMSSS-21, GMHS-41 and GMHS 48, also got the threat emails.

Police officials, bomb disposal squads and fire brigade personnel rushed to these institutions immediately after the threat was received. A thorough sanitisation and checking of the premises were carried out.

The threat email, bearing the subject line “Chandigarh School Bomb Blast”, claimed that Chandigarh belonged to Khalistan and warned of explosions at specific timings - 1:11 pm for city schools and 3:11 pm for the Punjab Secretariat. The message referred to alleged “justice” for Hardeep Singh Nijjar, mentioned Canada and ended with the name of a so-called Khalistan National Army along with purported signatories. The Secretariat building was also mentioned in the threat.

Several schools evacuated students and staff as a precautionary measure. Examinations underway at multiple centres were temporarily halted. In some institutions, tests resumed after bomb disposal teams completed checks and declared the premises safe. Police personnel continued to remain deployed outside the affected schools to prevent any untoward incident.

In an official statement issued in the afternoon, the Chandigarh Administration confirmed that no suspicious object had been found at any of the schools so far and that the threat appeared to be a hoax. Authorities said investigations were underway to trace the origin of the emails and that strict action would be taken against those responsible.

The fresh threat comes weeks after a similar incident on January 28, when more than two dozen schools in the city received bomb emails, leading to widespread evacuations.

Security agencies are now examining the latest emails for similarities with the earlier threats.
