Gangster, aides walk free in robbery case

Chandigarh, November 16

A local court has acquitted gangster Yodh Singh, alias Jodha, and his two accomplices — Lovepreet and Amrik Singh — in a case of robbery at gunpoint, as the prosecution failed to prove the charges.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Raghuvinder Kumar (39), a technician at the PGI, stated that he was returning home on his bike when three car-borne miscreants intercepted him on the road separating Sector 14 and 15 around 12.20 am on January 5 last year. He was made to sit in the car and robbed of his purse containing Rs 10,000 and a mobile phone at gunpoint. Thereafter, he was dumped on a  road. The police later arrested the accused and booked under Sections 341, 392 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.

During the trial, the defence counsel, Vaneet Kumar, argued that the accused were falsely implicated in the case. The complainant had stated that he never accompanied cops for any recovery, but the police mentioned that they recovered case property in front of the complainant, which was also identified by the complainant, stated the counsel. 

It was also argued that sketches of the alleged robbers were also not prepared by the police. Also, no test identification parade was conducted by the police.

The timing of the crime was also contested by the defence counsel by mentioning that the complainant had stated that he gave a complaint after two or three days of the incident while the police mentioned that the complaint was given on the spot on January 5. After hearing the arguments, the court acquitted Amrik Singh, Yodh Singh and Lovepreet of the
