According to the police, the complainant’s mobile phone was compromised after an APK file got installed on it. The fraudster allegedly used the compromised device to transfer Rs 99,000 from the victim’s SBI account.

During the investigation, technical analysis and examination of the money trail allegedly showed that the fraud amount was credited to an Airtel payments bank account linked to Khan. The money was subsequently used at a petrol pump in Hapur, UP.

Acting on the technical inputs and money trail, a Chandigarh Police team conducted a raid in Ghaziabad and arrested Khan. During interrogation, Khan disclosed the involvement of two other persons in the fraud. Police are now working to identify and arrest them. Khan has been sent to judicial custody. — TNS
