Chandigarh, May 16

The newly built girls’ hostel no. 10 will be inaugurated on May 29. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore is expected to come for the inauguration.

The hostel was scheduled to open in April, but was delayed due to various reasons. In a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover and XEN on April 19, PU Campus Students’ Council Secretary Vani Sood ensured a prompt action on this.

“This will benefit 400 students of the university. Earlier, these students were forced to live in PGs which are comparatively not secure. This will be a major help to them. I thank the authorities for looking into our requests and taking this matter seriously,” she said.

As of now, allotments in the hostel have not started. In the girls’ hostel no. 10, research scholars will get rooms with attached washrooms.

There are two types of rooms in hostel no. 10 — with common and attached washrooms. The charges will be Rs 200 per month for normal rooms, while for those with attached washrooms, it will be Rs 500 per month. No rent will be charged from scheduled caste or scheduled tribe students.

The power charges will be Rs 500 per month and development fund will be Rs 1,000 per month for rooms with common washrooms. For rooms with attached washrooms, the power charges will be Rs 700 per month and development fund will be Rs 2,000 per month.

The water bill, celebration fund, lift charges will be Rs 100 each per month and establishment charges will be charged at Rs 1,000 per month for both kind of rooms.

But routine hostel maintenance charges will be Rs 500 per month for rooms with common washrooms and Rs 1,000 per month for rooms with attached washrooms.

The mess fund charges, optional charges and other fees and fine will remain the same as applicable to other hostels.

Students from J&K who get admission under the PM Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir will be given accommodation in the hostels on sharing basis. They will be charged the same rental as is being charged from the research scholars who are paying their house rent to the hostels at Rs 5,000 per month.
