Mohali, February 27

Cracking whip on illegal structures, officials of the regulatory wing of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) today demolished illegal shops and buildings at Lambian village in Sector 69. Over five dozen illegal structures, including shops and houses, were demolished in the drive.

Mahesh Bansal, Estate Officer (Regulatory), GMADA, said the land was acquired by GMADA and compensation given to land owners over two decade ago. These structures were in contravention to the provisions of the SAS Nagar Master Plan and the Punjab New Capital Periphery Control Act, 1952, he added. The drive went on peacefully and there was not resistance from violators, he said. Cabinet Minister and local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu also arrived on the spot, met affected families and assured them proper compensation. He said said most residents had failed to provide documents of their buildings. — TNS
