GMCH-32 gets second woman director principal

With 25 years of experience, Dr Ravneet Kaur is set to replace Professor Gurvinder Pal Thami

The Chandigarh Administration on Saturday appointed Dr Ravneet Kaur as the new director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, replacing Prof Gurvinder Pal Thami, who was relieved of charge with immediate effect.

A transfusion medicine specialist with 25 years at the institution, Dr Kaur has played a key role in building India’s National Haemovigilance Programme.

In 2022, the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology honoured her with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Most recently, she served as Professor In-charge (Academics) - a role in which she worked to tighten academic processes and raise institutional standards.

Confirming the appointment, Dr Kaur said she was “deeply grateful” to the Chandigarh Administration for its trust. “I accept this responsibility with humility and a strong sense of commitment,” she said, pledging to strengthen patient care, improve the patient experience, and raise the quality of medical teaching and training.
