Goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a chemical plant of the Ind-Swift pharmaceutical company here today. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

It is learnt that goods worth around Rs 10 crore perished in the fire. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but company officials said the fire broke out due to “static charge” when workers were taking out solvents.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out around 10.30 am at chemical plant No. 20 located at Bhagwanpur village on the Dera Bassi-Barwala road. Manjeet Singh, Fire Officer, Dera Bassi, said they received information about the fire at 10.43 am after which two fire engines were rushed to the spot. It took the firefighters over two hours to control the blaze. The rescue work started at 10.48 am and went on till 12.53 pm.
