Governor inspects gaushalas, calls for regular monitoring, accountability
Tells MC to ensure proper living conditions, feeding and hydration of the cattle
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria today conducted an on-site inspection of the gaushalas and the incineration facility located in Raipur Kalan here to take stock of the arrangements made for the welfare, care and management of cattle.
The Administrator interacted with the officers and staff posted at the gaushalas and issued instructions to ensure accountability, transparency and an effective monitoring in the functioning of these facilities.
Kataria directed the MC to ensure proper living conditions, feeding and hydration of the cattle housed in the gaushalas.
Regarding the incinerator installed at the Raipur Kalan gaushala, the Administrator was briefed that the facility had remained temporarily non-operational due to a technical snag, which could not be addressed immediately. He directed the MC to get the incinerator repaired and make it functional at the earliest to ensure a scientific disposal of dead animals.
To enhance transparency and effective monitoring, Kataria said detailed information about manpower deployment at each gaushala, including veterinary doctors, para-veterinary staff and other supporting personnel, along with their daily duty rosters, must be prominently displayed at visible locations. This, he said, would facilitate a regular supervision and public accountability.
Emphasising the importance of security and continuous monitoring, the Administrator reiterated strict compliance with CCTV surveillance norms. He directed that CCTV systems be actively monitored and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure round-the-clock vigilance and maintenance of hygiene in the gaushalas.
Kataria said periodic inspections, strict adherence to the prescribed standards and timely maintenance of infrastructure would continue to be pursued to ensure humane and efficient functioning of the gaushalas across the Union Territory.
Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, Chandigarh; Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; Pardeep Kumar, Secretary, Animal Husbandry-cum-Special Commissioner, MCC; along with other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and MC were present. The representatives of the city-level Gau Sewak Associations were also present during the Governor’s visit.
