The CBI had produced the employees, Sabar Ali and Rahul Yadav, who were arrested on Thursday in a case registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on the complaint of one Ravi Shankar.

The complainant stated that he had been selling fruits from a stall at the Sector 26 market for the past 26 years. He alleged that committee employees had been repeatedly confiscating his fruits.

When he met Ali, a driver in the committee, he asked the complainant to pay Rs 12,000 per week. When he expressed his inability to pay that much money, Ali threatened him that if he failed to do so, a committee official won’t allow him to run his stall in future.

CBI sleuths laid a trap and nabbed Ali and Yadav while demanding and accepting an undue advantage of Rs 12,000.

The CBI told the court that the investigation was in its initial stage and important documents pertaining to the case had to be collected and important witnesses examined. The two suspects could influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence. The role of other officials was also being investigated. In view of this, the suspects should not be granted bail. The court was asked to send them to judicial custody.
