Gurukul boys storm into semis

CHANDIGARH:Gurukul Global Club defeated Starkids (A-team) 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the boys’ junior category on the opening day of the 31st Chandigarh State U-18 Table Tennis Championship for Sardar Gurmeet Singh Grewal Memorial Trophy at the Sector 23 TT Hall on Thursday.

Chandigarh, November 8 

Gurukul Global Club defeated Starkids (A-team) 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the boys’ junior category on the opening day of the 31st Chandigarh State U-18 Table Tennis Championship for Sardar Gurmeet Singh Grewal Memorial Trophy at the Sector 23 TT Hall on Thursday.

Arnav outplayed Rakesh 11-4 11-6 11-2, while Jashan overpowered Karan 11-6 11-9 11-1. In the final match, the pair of Arnav and Vaibhav defeated Rakesh and Karan 11-5 11-6 11-4.

In another match, Starway (A-team) also registered a 3-0 victory against KVS-59. Rahul started with an 11-7 11-4 12-10 win against Akhil Khan, while Aariv defeated Rohit 11-3 11-5 14-12. In the doubles category, Rahul and Aariv overpowered Rohit and Amaan 11-6 11-4 11-6.

Starway (B-team) defeated Starkids (B-team) 3-0. Kamaldeep beat Nirbhay 11-6 11-7 11-6, while Guneet beat Rajvir 6-11 11-6 7-11 11-9 11-5. In the doubles category, Kamal and Piyush defeated Nirbhay and Armaan 11-7 11-6 11-13 11-2.

Carmel girls in semis

Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, reached the semifinals of the U-18 girls’ category by registering a 3-0 win against Champions Club, Sector 56. Vibhuti won the first match for the Sector 9 team by defeating Sanjana 11-2 11-5 11-5. Himanshi defeated Alfara 11-7 14-12 11-5. In the doubles category, the duo of Himani and Himanshi beat Sanjana and Alfara 14-12 10-12 11-7 11-9 to pull off a comfortable win. In the second match, Starway (A-team) defeated Starkids 3-0. Khushi registered an easy 11-7 11-5 11-4 victory over Manika, while Aparna defeated Paridhi 11-3 11-5 11-5 to make it 2-0 in favour of Starway. Deevanshi and Mansi defeated Manika and Devanshi 11-3 11-3 11-1. In the last match, DAV Club beat Tender Heart Academy 3-0. Vasundhara defeated Teetiksha 11-2 11-2 11-5, while Pelf overpowered Manal 11-6 11-6 11-9. Pelf and Vasundhara combined to beat Teetiksha and Manal 11-8 7-11 11-8 11-8.
