Harsh stuns top seed in tennis meet in Chandigarh

Harsh Marwaha of Haryana stunned top seed Charchit Boora of Chandigarh in a three-set clash to march into the next round at the Roots AITA Challenge Series National Ranking Championships.

Marwaha won the opening set 6-1, but lost the second to Boora 5-7. In the final set, Marwaha maintained his calm and recorded a 6-3 win to march into the boys’ U-18 semifinals.

Punjab’s Gurshaan Singh defeated Haryana’s Jahaan Jolly 6-1 6-1 and Punjab’s Amrat Chaudhary defeated Haryana’s Sarthak Gandhi 6-1 5-7 6-4 after a see-saw battle. Ayaan Chandel also managed to reach the semis by defeating Sachit Thakur 6-1 7-6 (5).

In the boys’ U-16 semifinals, Yug Raj Mahi defeated top seed Boora. Mahi lost the opener 4-6, but bounced back to win the next two sets 6-3 6-4, overpowering Boora, who was experiencing fatigue after playing the boys’ U-18 round.

In the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals, Mohak Kulkarni of Maharashtra defeated Isvrat Kaur 6-2 6-3, Jasmine Kaur stunned third seed Sehajpreet Kaur of Punjab 6-4 6-1, Kyati Bhatt ousted Japleen Kaur without conceding a game, and Japji ousted Harshita Vig 6-3 7-6(4).

Meanwhile, Khyati Bhatt, Mannat Awasthi, Rakshana Sudarshan and Chandigarh’s Ira Chadha reached girls’ U-18 semifinals.
