Harveer Punjab board Class XII Mohali topper

DERA BASSI: Harveer Kaur, a student of humanities in Government Senior Secondary School, Mubarikpur, near Dera Bassi, has emerged as Mohali district overall topper by scoring 97.78 per cent marks (440/450) in the Punjab School Education Board Class XII results declared today.

Harveer Kaur, a student of humanities in Government Senior Secondary School, Mubarikpur, near Dera Bassi, has emerged as Mohali district overall topper by scoring 97.78 per cent marks (440/450) in the Punjab School Education Board Class XII results declared today.

Taranpreet Singh of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Kharar, who has topped in the science stream with 97.56 per cent marks, has finished overall second in the district. Another humanities student, Parminderpal Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Mubarikpur, is third in the district with 95.78 per cent marks (431/450).

Simranjit Kaur, a student of GMSSS , Kharar, has got 95.56 per cent marks to remain second in the district in the science stream. Arti Devi of GMSSS, Phase 3B1, Mohali, has got 95.33 per cent marks to top in the vocational group, otherwise she has been placed at fifth position in the district. Harveer said: “Self-study with regular breaks was her success mantra. First, I studied whatever was taught in class, followed by subjects set according to my own time table. I used to watch ‘kirtan’ or listen to music during breaks.”

She owes her success to her teachers and parents. “I kept myself aloof from the social media and paid attention to my diet. My aim is to clear the UPSC exam and become an IAS officer,” she said, adding that her family always encourages her in all her endeavours.

Her father, Hari Singh, who runs a general store at Janetpur village, said: “I never felt the need to tell Harveer to study as I always knew she was serious about her studies.”

Third position holder in the district, Parminder said his ultimate aim was to crack the Civil Services exam.

Second position holder Taranpreet Singh’s father, Sukhdev Singh, works as a scooter mechanic and his mother Jaswinder Kaur is a house maker. He said he used to study for six-seven hours during normal days and for 12 hours during exam days. He used mobile only for Internet search. He wants to serve in the field of agriculture by doing BSc Agriculture. He gave credit for his success to his parents and school teachers. Simranjit’s father, Hardeep Singh, works as a tractor mechanic in Mohali and her mother, Parkash Kaur, is a homemaker. She used to study for six hours daily. She had no mobile phone and she never took any tuition. She said she wanted to become a maths teacher.
