Haryana eves win hockey title

CHANDIGARH:Hockey Haryana won the 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (A Division) by defeating Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-1 in Hisar today.

Hockey Haryana won the 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (A Division) by defeating Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-1 in Hisar today.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy scored the opening goal through Soniya Kumre in the 12th minute. The side maintained the lead in the second quarter. 

However, three minutes into the third quarter, Deepika scored the equalizer for Hockey Haryana. The score line remained at 1-1 at the end of the quarter. Both the teams were cautious going into the fourth quarter, but with just four minutes left to the game, Hockey Haryana were awarded a penalty. 

Deepika didn't make any mistake and scored the second for Haryana. With only four minutes to go, Harahan girls tightened the defence and maintained the lead at the final whistle. 

Hockey Jharkhand beat Sports Authority of India 7-2 to claim the third position. Elin Dung Dung opened Jharkhand's account in 23rd minute, a lead that was cancelled out two minutes later by Poonam Mundu. 

Nikki Kullu wrested the lead back for Hockey Jharkhand scoring in the 25th minute, followed by a goal by Rajni Kerketta in the 40th minute. 

Elin scored her second goal in the 43rd minute to extend the lead further. Three more goals were scored by Hockey Jharkhand in reply to one from Sports Authority of India by the end of fourth quarter.
