Parking woes

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?

Parking woes

It is good to see that the HC has asked the UT administration to frame a parking policy by May 2019. Similar instructions should be issued to the Mohali and Panchkula administrations as well. Every day, we witness people fighting over parking of their vehicles. Recently, a few youths bashed an advocate and his father in Panchkula over parking. The saying, ‘might is right’, is correct in this case. The administrations of tricity should limit the number of cars registered in same name to keep a check on the number of vehicles on roads. Also, all sectors should have common underground parkings beneath parks. This will certainly help in controlling the congestion. Sanjay Chopra, Mohali

No repair of footpath

The accompanying photograph taken at Maharaja Agarsen Chowk (Sector 8-9-16-17 rotary) in Panchkula speaks volumes about the pathetic attitude of the agency, which dug up a pedestrian path to install CCTV cameras here. Therefore, non-repair of this footpath is spelling doom for pedestrians. SK Gupta, Panchkula

Traders’ demands highlighted

Chandigarh Tribune is doing a yeoman service by providing a direct feedback to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation regarding the problems and demands of traders in its column, ‘State of Market’. For instance, through the Sector 23 market survey, it brought out the genuine demands of traders. There is a common point for the entry and exit of vehicles in this market, whereas almost all markets have separate entrance and exit points. The demand requires serious consideration. The authorities concerned should look into the matter at the earliest. AS Ahuja, Chandigarh

PPP model for schools good

This is apropos of the news item, ‘Bansal opposes PPP model for schools, dispensaries’, published in these columns on February 12. I would request to the Administrator that the public-private partnership (PPP) model is a good option, as government offices are still not serving nicely. Moreover, the idea of allowing the construction of one extra floor on booths and SCOs will affect the city’s environment. We do not want that Chandigarh should be more crowded, as we are still struggling with parking issues on residential roads. Basant Kumar
