Nabha, August 16

The Kotwali police have booked three persons, including Karnail Singh and Ashok Kumar, head cashier and SDO, respectively, for defrauding the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) of Rs 55 lakh.

On the complaint of XEN, PSPCL, Nabha division, the police have registered a case against the three under Sections 409, 120-B of the IPC.

As per the FIR, the head cashier, Karnail Singh, who is presently posted at Bhawanigarh, and was previously working in the Nabha division, collected cash against huge bills through a private person, but did not deposit the same in the account. The police have also booked SDO Ashok Kumar as he was responsible for checking any pilferage of funds.

The XEN said he did not know about the case as he had recently joined at Nabha. He said the case had been registered after the audit wing of the PSPCL conducted investigations exposing the fraud.

However, the third accused Hardeep Singh, who claimed to be a whistleblower, said he was being falsely implicated in the case as he had nothing to do with the bill collection.
