Patiala, April 26

Fearing the outbreak of dengue, the District Health Department has already issued an advisory to all Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to help in curbing the spread of the disease.

According to the advisory, the Health Department has asked the BDPOs to start fogging in their respective areas in order to destroy the dengue larvae.

In fact, the decision of issuing the advisory was taken after a brainstorming meeting of officials of the District Health Department with the District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) last week.

BDPOs have, specifically, been asked to empty water tanks in government school of every village in the district before the start of summer vacations.

Moreover, panchayat officers have also been instructed to repair and re-carpet roads and bylanes to prevent creation of water puddles, which ultimately become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The BDPOs have also been asked to keep a check on water pipes and water tanks in villages.

District health officials said more than 750 cases of dengue had already been reported from the rural areas, especially, from the Kauli and Shutrana areas of the Patiala district.

As to raise awareness on dengue, the BDPOs will ensure that announcements about the disease are made from religious places in villages.

District Epidemiologist, Dr Sumeet, said, “All BDPOs have been advised to take every possible measure to contain dengue. We have already apprised them about the deadly disease and expect good cooperation in this regard.”
