Patiala, July 18

In what can be termed as an administrative failure, the authorities of the Government Rajindra Hospital have failed to restore health services on the second consecutive day.

Patients at the Government Rajindra Hospital were at the receiving ends as the operation theatre (OT) remained locked for the last 2 days.

The class IV employee, on Thursday, resorted to hooliganism. The protestors misbehaved and threatened the doctors of the Orthopedic Department.

A senior doctor, on condition of anonymity, said: “We agree that they have the right to protest, but to lock the operation theatre for two consecutive days is inhuman. The authorities concerned should strictly deal with the protestors.”

As per sources, the authorities concerned are, reportedly, scared of taking action against the protestors.

However, the Medical Superintendent assured that the health services will resume in 24 hours, but nothing much has been done in this regard.

Meanwhile, class IV employees carried out a protest march on the hospital campus on Thursday. Ram Krishan, president, Employee Joint Action Committee, said: “The workload on class lV employees has increased manifold in the last couple of years. The authorities concerned should employ more staff immediately and if our demands are not met, we will continue to protest in the same manner.”

As per sources, the class IV employees have purposely closed the facility of OTs because of their personal animosity with the staff and doctors of the Orthopedics Department.

Principal BS Sidhu circumvented the questions while Medical Superintendent BS Brar did not respond despite repeated attempts.

Brahm Mohindra, Family Welfare and Health Minister, said: “I was not aware of the incident, but I will make sure that no patient suffers from tomorrow due to the protest.”
